Who is your favorite director? I can’t say I have one.

Genuineness

I am one of those people who watch the stars (including famous authors). It’s kind of like a dirty secret (well maybe not so secret with some people) that I keep. I am fascinated by fame and one day hope to be in the limelight (although since having children I am scared of them becoming part of that limelight even if they don’t want to).

I’ve noticed a quality in my favourite stars that I know I want to have if my goals ever come to fruition. Genuineness. I don’t want to be that ‘unattainable’ figure to people. I want to be someone who people feel they can relate to. Someone people feel that they can approach. I want to be me – both in the limelight and behind the fences of my home.

It was with this thought in my mind that I realised that my decision to focus my blog on just my writing was not going to work for me. Detaching my writing from my personal life was taking away that element of genuineness that I wanted to keep.

Now, I don’t have to go out exposing all my private dealings to the world, but I can talk about me and my experiences a bit more openly than maybe the next person. You can get to know me and perhaps I can get to know you.

Return to Archery

For those who don’t know, I am an archer. I have been a member of The Archers of Greenwood for a year an a half. In that time I have earned myself three club-level medals and I have become a club coach.

Today our club had our first day back for the new year (after a short hiatus over the Christmas break). I’ve changed up in poundage on my limbs (not really a good idea after time off, but I was happy with the result) and shot better than I have any other time. If I didn’t already have my perfect at 10 meters on a 122cm face, then I would have most definitely got it today. Really good grouping.

My son (aged 8) also didn’t do too bad. I’ve been coaching him for about 4 months now (three if you take out the break) and he’s showing improvement. With practice he’ll be as good as his Dad (who was club champion last year).

My goals in Archery for this year are:

Perfect at 20m
All Gold at 15m, 18m (indoor) and 25m
To be able to shoot in the State clout this year

Influence

I don’t cry when celebrities die. I never have.

I remember way back when I was younger and Kurt Cobain died (1994). A lot of my friends were crying. I didn’t understand how people could cry over someone they didn’t personally know. I felt sad, but I didn’t cry.

It’s been the same for everyone. But right now I am crying for Alan Rickman. He influenced me in so many ways that I don’t tell people. I don’t talk about it. He has saved my life without anyone knowing about it. He got me through depression – and no one knew.

I now understand. Sometimes people you don’t personally know can be such a part of you that you feel lost when you know they’ll never be making any new influences on your life.

Yup. I get it.

I don’t think I’ll be online much today. I’m not used to feeling this way.

RIP Alan Rickman

So for the last couple of weeks I have been reading my children Harry Potter. Last night I reached the part that Professor Snape is introduced. I read his parts in my ‘best’ Alan Rickman voice and reflected on how much I loved Alan in that role. He’s been one of my favourite actors for so long and his voice just makes me melt. He has also inspired me in many ways that I don’t talk about.
And the I woke up this morning.
It’s a sad day. So many greats in such sort succession. It’s been happening a lot these last few years. Only a few days it was Peeves in the book… and I thought of Rik Mayall, who was supposed to play Peeves (although he didn’t appear), which made me think of Robin Williams.
Why do the good ones go together? Not even a week and we’ve had David Bowie and now Alan Rickman. “Major Tom” has been looping in my head since the news of his death. I guess Professor Snape will be singing it now.
R.I.P. Alan Rickman. Thank you for inspiring me.

Gymnastics

I returned to gymnastics last night with a new coach. Boy did he work us! Even my husband said he found it hard. I hope that the coach will help me achieve my goals in gymnastics this year, but I hope he doesn’t break us in the process.

Wow! What a pledge.

Today my brother pledged $200 (+$20 for shipping) to my Kickstarter project. My brother and I have not ever been super close (but not in a bad way – mostly because of distance) and it’s not very often we exchange gifts, so such a generous gift came as a wonderful surprise. It brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy that he’ll be the one owning my limited edition that I listed on the rewards tier.

Life is good.
